PCDJ

As you may have seen from some of the equipment pictures on our Web site, Rob has incorporated the latest in computer technology to provide superior sound, lightning fast ability to accommodate music requests, and fabulous flexibility to provide the perfect musical atmosphere for every event.

"So do you like just download music off the Internet?"
NO! Rob has well over 6,000 full length CDs -- all legal. He took many months to transfer that library of music into computer-based mp3 files [recorded at a high bit rate (320) for superior sound quality].

"Is this DJing from an iPod?"
NO. Absolutely not. Lots of people are enjoying the flexibility of playing mp3 files on portable devices. Many people have lots of songs loaded onto their laptops as well. BUT, the sound quality, reliability, and flexibility of playing these through an amplified sound system are NOT of professional grade or standards. The equipment that Rob has invested in IS professional gear, designed specifically for DJing. The difference is like night and day. Here are some of the details:

This is how the equipment is set up. Professional mixing board (Rane MP-44, their highest-end, top-of-the-line mixer); Denon 9000 Dual CD player; dedicated laptop running the PCDJ FX software; DAC-3 controller; external Edirol UA-101sound card; over a half terabyte of storage of over 100,000 songs on 2 Maxtor external hard drives. Read below for more details.
Toshiba Satellite P520-S
17" wide laptop; Pentium 4; 3 GHz, 80 GB HD; 800 MHz BUS Speed; 1 GB RAM; Windows XP Home; 80 GB hard drive. The ONLY thing this laptop is used for is for DJing. It is not used to surf the Internet (keeping it virus-free). This is a true work-horse of a computer.
PCDJ-FX Program
This is the software, specifically designed for DJing. It includes many features to allow tremendous flexibility over the music, being able to adjust the pitch, tempo, and EQ, right through the software for each song. This is their top-of-the-line version of the PCDJ software.
Built in Karaoke module
PCDJ-KJ software is integrated directly into the program, and our Karaoke CD+G library of over 13 THOUSAND Karaoke songs has been transferred into this format. This allows us to add a great dynamic to any event in which the client may wish to incorporate Karaoke.

DAC-3 and DAC-2 Controllers
This is the DJ controller that Rob uses to play the music. You will see this DAC-3 controller in the equipment case above (the DAC-2 is a back-up). This allows Rob to shape the music's pitch, tempo, loop, sample, and do virtually everything that could be done on the high-end DJ CD players.
You can see that this is a far cry from "DJing" with an iPod.

The quality of sound is only as good as its weakest component. Here is clear evidence that we do NOT cut corners and are committed to delivering SUPERIOR sound quality. Our clients deserve nothing less than the best.

Edirol UA-101 sound card
If you were to take a typical laptop, plug an adapter into the little stereo headphone jack and run that through the mixer and through the sound system, you would certainly get sound, BUT, it would not be anywhere close to the quality that you would want. This $500+ sound card provides incredible quality sound. 24-bit/96kHz analog I/O; 192kHz stereo out, high speed USB 2.0. Try matching those studio-quality features against the typical sound card. Better yet, do a side-by-side comparison and you will be amazed at the difference!

Maxtor 300 GB external hard drives
(300 GB & 250 GB; RPM: 7200; Cache buffer: 16MB)
We have a total of SIX of these hard drives - 3 identical sets, providing peace of mind, knowing that we are covered in case of emergency.

Back-up Laptop
Sure all this stuff above is top-of-the-line and we do everything we can to keep it operating safely and appropriately. But it is still computer equipment and therefore we DO need to have a back-up. This is the back-up laptop -- a laptop that many people would aspire to have as their primary unit.

Toshiba Satellite M45-S3591
Intel Pentium® M processor 760 [2.0GHz, 2MB L2 cache, 533MHz FSB]; Windows XP Professional; 1 GB RAM; 15.4" Diagonal Wide-screen XGA Display w/TruBrite Technology (1280x800) Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900 with 8MB-128MB dynamically allocated graphics memory

M-Audio Firewire 410 sound card
Another one of our back-up sound cards. This $300+ sound card provides incredible quality sound. 24-bit/96kHz analog I/O; 192kHz stereo out. Compare those studio-quality features against the typical sound card and you will see that we are committed to providing top quality sound for every event.

Back-up sound card
M-Audio Audiophile
4 x 6 24-bit/96kHz I/O 2 x 4 analog operation (RCA) Digital S/PDIF (coaxial) I/O w/ 2-channel PCM Digital out also supports AC-3/DTS surround sound. This is a $200+ sound card that delivers fabulous sound quality - a sound card that many other DJs aspire to one-day get. And this is a BACK-UP!
Yet another back-up sound card!
Ego Systems Gigaport AG
8 x RCA Analog Output(8 x 24 bit D/A Converter)
This is another back-up sound card. As you can probably tell by now, Rob goes almost overboard on back-ups. But that means that YOU can have peace of mind, knowing that there is nothing that is going to keep the musical entertainment from happening at YOUR event!

"OK, Rob, so what happens if your primary system goes down, and your back-up system goes down, and your back-up to your back-up goes down?"

My answer to that is... I go back to playing that same music on CDs that I carry with me to every event!

The bottom line is that with every part of Rob's service, he has invested in high-grade, professional equipment and back-up equipment. It's not just because he likes the gadgets. It's because these TOOLS do help make a difference in making sure that each and every client's event is going to be the best it can be. You have one shot at making your event a success. Rob wants to know that the tools we will use will be first rate. Because we believe you, as the client, deserve nothing less.
